Keeping an eye on Melanie Lane

Melanie Lane

I have met the best people since I started attending local literary events—people like Melanie Lane who published her first book before she turned 20.

I first met Melanie at the Say the Word poetry slams that happen at French Quarter Bar and Grill, Niceville, every first Wednesday of the month.

She stood out from the crowd, not only because of her youth, but because her enthusiasm bubbled over and reflected on everyone around her. When Melanie reads, she sinks her whole self into the performance.

Now she’s moving away from the area to move on with her life and I’ll miss her lively input to the poetry slam and jam scene but she will not be gone. As I continue to follow her via social media and she continues to publish books, I have a feeling Melanie may be gone from the area, but never forgotten.

Check out her first book, “Slam: Based on the Diaries of Mel Leavitt and a True Story” (Volume 1), and be sure to keep an eye on this up-and-comer.

Best of luck Melanie!
