I am pleased to announce that H.E.A.R.T Animal Rescue has been selected as our beneficiary for the first ever Ember Press anthology. HEART is a local non-profit that tries to keep animals with their original owners whenever possible. From their website:
It is our belief that with some temporary assistance, many animals can remain in their current homes instead of being admitted to animal shelters. Whenever possible, emergency placement, food and medical services for pets is available to approved responsible low-income families, senior citizens on fixed incomes and families that are dealing with illnesses where resources are limited.
HEART stands for Helping Every Animal Regain Tomorrow.
Keeping animals at home makes sense and is best in the long run for the animals and the owners. It also shows a wise use of resources since giving a family assistance to keep their pet tends to be more economical than housing it in a shelter. We are proud to have the opportunity to raise money to help HEART Animal Rescue.
Complete anthology rules will be announced tomorrow, but I can tell you that the theme will be rescued pets, submissions will be limited to 2,000 words and inclusion to the anthology will be selected by an independent judging panel. There will be three categories for short stories; youth, young adult and adult. We will also be including poetry in the same categories. But as I said, complete details tomorrow.
